Custom blinds and curtains in Montréal

We direct light.

Custom blinds, curtains and motorized window coverings designed around the way you live. Visualized before you buy and installed with one point of accountability.

15-minute first conversation · No pressure · Montréal and surrounding areas

Every room has an hour it turns against you.

Yours is probably between three and six.

So we read the room before we sell you anything.

Orientation. Hour. Heat. Privacy. View. What the room actually does, before anyone opens a fabric book.

Blackout behind. Sheer in front.

Two layers on one wall, and the room answers to you instead of to the sun.

Same room. Same hour.

That is the whole difference. Fifteen minutes on the phone is where it starts.

The Quasar Preview

Buying custom window coverings should not require imagination.

Fabric samples help. They cannot show how the whole room will feel. Quasar narrows the choices, visualizes the recommendation in your actual space, then proves the result after installation.

Project No. 0412

One apartment, photographed the whole way through.

Downtown MontréalWest and south glassLiving, kitchen and diningSolar rollers
Before The apartment before installation: bare floor-to-ceiling corner glass, a floor lamp and an unopened box on the floor.
Corner glass on two exposures. Nothing fitted, nothing on order.
Quasar 3D Render A visualization of the same apartment with the proposed roller shades fitted above every window.
The recommendation, rendered on the real room. Nothing was manufactured until this was approved.
Installation A Quasar installer on a ladder fitting a roller shade at the head of the window.
Fitted by the people who measured it. Floors protected, hardware aligned to the frame.
Finished The finished apartment at golden hour, shades lowered across every window, someone playing the piano.
Every opening covered, the sun handled, the room in use. This is the frame most companies never take.

Problem

Corner glass on two exposures with nothing fitted. Unusable from mid afternoon, and every hard surface in the apartment throwing light back at you.

Recommendation

Solar rollers across every opening, specified by orientation rather than by one fabric for the whole apartment. The kitchen and the living room do not have the same problem and were not given the same answer.

Result

The room is usable through the afternoon and the skyline is still there. The last photograph was taken after the client had been living with it.

Solutions

Designed around how you live, not around a catalogue.

A room with roller shades lowered across a wall of windows.

Roller Shades

Solar, light filtering or blackout, chosen by openness and orientation rather than by swatch.

For the room the afternoon ruins

Floor to ceiling curtains with deep folds running the length of a room.

Custom Curtains

Ripplefold and pinch pleat, made to the millimetre, hung floor to ceiling with real fullness.

For the room that is finished except for the windows

A window dressed with a roller shade and drapery layered in front of it.

Roller plus Curtain

The layer most people actually need. Solar fabric for the day, textile for the evening.

For west and southwest glass

A living room with motorized shades lowered against bright afternoon sun.

How it is made

Designed by Quasar. Made to measure with our Montréal production partner. Installed by Quasar.

Your windows are measured by the person who will install them. The order goes to our production partner in Montréal and is made to those exact dimensions. Nothing is cut to a standard size and trimmed to fit on the day.

Accountability
Mike, the founder of Quasar, photographed with his dog in a Montréal apartment.

I stay on the project until it is right.

I'm Mike. I have worked with window coverings since 2000. I stay involved from the first conversation through the finished installation.

The most common story in this trade is a measurement error that turns into the customer's problem, and a chain of people who each point at the next one. On a Quasar project there is one name on it. Mine.

The Quasar guarantees

Four things in writing before you sign.

Two of these are unusual in this trade, and both are deliberate. We diagnose the problem in writing before you buy, so we are willing to be held to whether we actually solved it.

01
The fit guarantee

A Quasar measurement error that stops the product fitting as specified is corrected by Quasar.

In writing
02
The light guarantee

If the installed solution does not solve the light problem named in your written diagnosis, we replace it within 30 days of installation. Fabric and labour, both at our cost.

03
The proposal guarantee

The written proposal price does not move between signature and installation.

Where we stand

Quasar is new. The trade is not.

You will not find a wall of client quotes on this page, because we are not going to invent them. Here is what is true instead, and you can check all of it.

01
Mike has done this since 2000

Twenty-six years specifying and installing window coverings in Montréal homes. Quasar is the studio he built to do it his way, not the start of the experience.

Since 2000
02
Made with an established Montréal partner

Your order is made to measure by Deco Stores, a Montréal blinds manufacturer with a 4.8 rating from 31 Google reviews. That rating is theirs, not ours.

Before we talk

Questions before the first conversation.

Standard windows start at $500 installed. Three things move it from there: the size of the opening, the textile you choose, and whether it is motorized. A small bedroom window with a light-filtering roller and a wall of west-facing glass with motorized solar fabric are not the same conversation, and we would rather tell you that now than after a visit. You get a written range on the first call and a fixed proposal after measurement. The fixed proposal does not move.

Made to measure takes time. We give you the current written estimate with your proposal rather than a number on a website that goes stale.

Most Montréal towers do. We work to the building's declaration and specify the exterior-facing side accordingly. Bring the document to the first conversation if you have it.

Not on its own. Blackout fabric blocks the light that passes through it, and the gap at the sides is what people notice at six in the morning. Real darkness needs side channels or drapery in front. We will tell you which one your room needs.

The two real failure points are batteries and the app. We specify the power method to the window and the room, commission it on site, and set the scenes so nobody needs the app day to day.

No. Flat curtains look cheap and heavy curtains look heavy. Fullness, hem weight and track behaviour are what make drapery read as finished, and those are specification decisions, not fabric decisions.

We do, on installation day. Eligible materials are routed toward reuse, recycling or responsible recovery where practical.

If a Quasar measurement error prevents the product from fitting as specified, Quasar corrects it, subject to the final written terms.

Mike reads it and replies within the published business-response window to arrange a 15-minute conversation. No visit is scheduled and nothing is quoted until you have had that call.

The Montréal Light Guide, by exposure

Which way your windows face decides the answer, and most people are sold a fabric before anyone asks. This is the one-page version of the diagnosis we do on site: what each exposure does to a room in Montréal, and what actually fixes it.

  • West · glare and heat
  • South · all-day load
  • East · early light
  • North · flat and cold
  • The blackout halo
  • Condo rules
